Title: Effects of Survey Mode on Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Hospice Survey Scores.
Summary: The authors found Hospice CAHPS scores came back higher if the survey was administered by mail rather than telephone. This finding is contrary to the Hospital CAHPS, where telephone surveys had higher scores than mailed surveys. One possible explanation for this difference pertains to the grief process, noting the telephone surveys were conducted ~9 days earlier than mail surveys. The authors recommend CMS adjust Hospice CAHPS scores prior to publicly posting them on the Hospice Compare website.
